Scandian Industries Hardwood Floors
Over the past 3 decades, Scandian Industries has become synonymous for honesty and integrity in the Forestry Industry. Through total commitment to quality in products, forest management, and people, Scandian has become a global leader in the forest products industry.
This tradition of excellence in the wood industry began in 1978 when two brothers, Jaime and Bento Scandian, established their first manufacturing facility (Madescan 1) to supply Railroad ties and lumber to the Brazilian market. Their brother Paulo Scandian, who is the current president of Scandian Industries, joined them two years later and together they set out to be the Brazilian leader in the production of railroad ties and lumber.
With the success of Madescan 1, Scandian Industries embarked on an aggressive plan to expand into different areas of the Forestry Industry. By building and acquiring manufacturing facilities, investing in land and timber, and offering a more diversified product mix, Scandian has grown into a global company producing an array of forest products that sell on five different continents.
At Scandian we realize our business has a direct ecological and economic impact on the environment. Therefore, we have designed and implemented positive policies and programs that demonstrate our commitment to society.
Ecological Environment:
Respect for the natural environment through sustained forest management is at the core of our values and business philosophy. Wood is a renewable resource that needs to be handled with care and consideration for the continued supply and enjoyment of future generations.
Sustained forest management can be viewed as selective harvesting. It starts with an assessment of all trees in a given area to determine which ones will be selected for removal. Only fully-grown and mature native species are removed. This allows more light, nutrients, and water to reach the immature trees in the upper-story; providing ideal growing conditions for the remaining trees. The process is finished once harvesting is complete and an inventory of the forest is taken to assist with future harvesting cycles.
Scandian Industries commitment to ecologically minded business is practiced on all of our lands. The Brazilian Institute of the Environment and Natural Resources (IBAMA) closely monitors sustained forest management practices to ensure that Brazil's forests are replenished and capable of supporting wildlife for future generations.
