General conditions before beginning a wood floor installation:In order to begin the installation of any wood floor the sub floor must be absolutely clean; meaning that there cannot be any dust and other elements laying about. Make sure to cover up any doors, ducts and glass on windows. Take care to level floors appropriately, in the case of kitchens, baths and patios the sub floor must be above of the level of the ceramic one. The reason for this is to avoid any water advancing on to the wood floor and avoid any future deformations of the floor. The humidity cannot exceeded more than 1.8%. When installing heating by slab or radiating floor the same technique will be used but one week before beginning the installation of the wood floor. If your home or apartment is new, often then not the structure was exposed to rain or like here in New York snow and ice. Make sure that the moisture conditions on job site are adequate. The job site must be completely closed off at least 48 hours before bringing any of the flooring in. Things like washing dishes long baths and mopping can contribute negatively to the wood floor installation job site.Consult the wood floor installation company you've chosen to measure the percentage of humidity contained in your wood floor elements in order to know if its ready to receive coats of polyurethane(unfinished floors). This is in order evaporate the rest of humidity contained in the wood floor. If you'll be installing radiant slab heating then you must wait a week in order to take any measurements. Maintenance of the wood floor with paste wax will have to be made a minimum every thirty days in order to remove the old wax before spreading it over the wood floor. In order to maintain the wood floor after installation and treatment with water based products, polyurethane, or tongue oil you must let a 1 month minimum pass after installing the wood floor. You must do this in order to avoid deformations that the wood floor could undergo with the water evaporating in the sub floor. It is also recommended that in the case of having heating or radiating stoneware that maintenance comes after the first winter. Above grade flooring- meaning one story above the ground, these wood flooring types are allowable: Flooring type: solid, laminated, engineered and floating. On grade- meaning on the ground floor or above a basement: solid, laminated engineered and floating. Below grade- These are floors that will be going below ground like in a basement or falls below ground on any side of the structure: laminated, engineered and floating. |
